Though he’s a young man, Imad Royal is, and has been, a great many things. First and foremost; a gifted singer, producer, songwriter, and player whose minimal, pop-kissed, R&Beats earworms are as easy to love as they are openly emotive. But also: DJ, studio founder, college dropout, big brother, metal drummer and refugee for a summer. It was that last one that inspired most of the rest. When you’re on the road from Lebanon trying to get away from a war and, because the car breaks down, your family avoids being caught in a missile strike, well, you don’t waste time. For the D.C. to L.A. artist, that was all the inspiration he need to pour everything he’s got into making color-rich, luminous music too hefty to ignore.
After releasing “Troubles,” Imad Royal is back with his first single of the year. “Down For Whatever” features New Orleans based emcee/singer/producer Pell and combines electronic, pop and hip-hop to create an incredibly catchy new single.
