Chance has always been a very authentic and outspoken artist but is it possible to go to far ? During his “Be Encouraged Tour” the rapper had a screen displaying altered logos of major record labels, “Aftermath (Can’t Do Math), Sony (Phony), Epic (Eclick), Motown (No Crown), Atlantic (A Titanic), Def Jam (Don’t Join Recordings), Virgin (Villains), and Universal (Undiverse) “. just to name a few, were all included in the display. This hip hop artist has always been against working with major record labels, if you can recall he made a statement a while back saying he does not agree with the way record deals are setup.
Chance later got on twitter and publicly addressed the matter, apologizing to Dr.Dre and Aftermath entertainment stating that, “Dre is a premier example of creating space for wealth and ownership in an industry designed for creatives to be the foot soldiers. His work with Beats, Compton Schools and artist like Kendrick, Game, Eminem, .Paak, 50 NWA and others is unmatched and how i inspire to be. I set out to empower and I completely missed the ball and I know that now, once again Sorry to Dre, all the artists/producers at Aftermath and all the other folk trying to make a difference in music that I belittled.” .
There has been no reply from Dre at this time and there probably won’t be but way to take ownership of your actions Chance!
